The power of the in-between: Why the equinox is a portal for transformation

Twice a year, the world balances on a razor’s edge. Day and night, light and dark—equal, for just a brief moment.

The equinox is that fleeting pause in the great cosmic pendulum swing, a moment of stillness in the endless rhythm of expansion and contraction.

And if you pay attention, if you let yourself feel into that balance, you’ll understand why the ancients revered it as a portal—a threshold between worlds, between states of being, between the self you’ve been and the one you’re becoming.

The magic of the liminal space

We humans are obsessed with certainty. We like clear lines, solid ground, a definite “this” or “that.”

But transformation? That happens in the in-between.

The equinox is a moment of exquisite tension—the knife’s edge between the bright exuberance of summer and the introspective descent into winter (or vice versa, depending on where you are). It’s neither here nor there, and that makes it profoundly powerful.

Shamans, mystics, and those who dance with the unseen have always known that the liminal spaces—the doorways, crossroads, and dusk-lit thresholds—are where real magic happens.

The equinox is one of those doorways on a planetary scale, a cosmic pause that invites us to step beyond the familiar and into the unknown.

The death and rebirth cycle

In many traditions, the equinox marks a sacred transition.

Spring equinox? The return of life, the resurrection of the sun, the moment the earth exhales after the long, cold in-breath of winter.

Autumn equinox? The great letting-go, the fall into shadow, the descent into the underworld where all things decompose, transform, and eventually rise again.

If you resist this cycle—if you try to hold onto the past, cling to old versions of yourself, refuse the transformation—you stagnate. You rot, like a fruit that never drops from the tree.

And let’s be honest: we all do this at times.

We dig our heels in, gripping onto old identities, outdated beliefs, toxic relationships, and illusions of control. But the equinox reminds us that balance is not stillness. It’s movement. It’s transition.

Equinox as an inner alchemy

Every major shift in the outer world mirrors a shift within.

The equinox isn’t just happening in the sky—it’s happening in your psyche, your body, your energy field. It stirs things up. It reveals the places where you are out of alignment, where your inner scales have tipped too far in one direction.

So ask yourself:

  • Where in my life am I seeking balance?
  • What outdated aspects of myself am I ready to shed?
  • What new energies am I ready to call in?

The equinox is an initiation, if you choose to see it that way. It’s a moment to stand at the threshold of your own evolution, to consciously shift your trajectory rather than being dragged along by the tides of time.

A portal for transformation (if you dare to walk through it)

Ancient cultures saw the equinox as a time when the veil between worlds thinned—a moment when the unseen bled into the seen.

The Mayans built pyramids aligned to the equinox sun, the Druids gathered at megalithic sites to mark the transition, and in countless traditions, this was a time of sacred rites, rituals, and vision quests.

Why? Because the equinox is a portal, but not a passive one. It’s not some automatic enlightenment button. You have to walk through it. You have to make the choice: to release the old, to recalibrate, to step into the unknown with intention.

The real transformation doesn’t come from simply observing the equinox. It comes from engaging with it. It comes from rituals, from introspection, from setting intentions that align you with the natural currents of change.

How to harness the equinox energy

This isn’t about lighting a candle and whispering a wish into the void (though if that’s your thing, go for it). Real transformation requires engagement.

So, what can you do to work with the equinox energy?

  • Reflect on your personal equilibrium – Are you overworking, overgiving, overindulging? Or are you undernourished, underchallenged, underexpressed? What needs to shift?
  • Release something – Write down what’s weighing you down and burn it. Clean your damn house. Cut the energetic cords to whatever is keeping you stuck.
  • Make an offering – The equinox is a two-way street. You don’t just take; you give. Offer gratitude, offer energy, offer a symbolic sacrifice of some old habit or limiting belief.
  • Align your body with the shift – Fast, feast, detox, dance, sleep—whatever your body needs to mark the transition. Honor the shift physically as well as mentally.
  • Step into the unknown with intention – Choose your trajectory. Set an intention for the next cycle of your life, something that aligns with your deepest truth—not just your ego’s wishlist.

The Choice: Stagnation or evolution

The equinox doesn’t care if you participate or not. It’s going to happen with or without your engagement. But if you pay attention, if you ride the current instead of resisting it, you’ll find yourself naturally syncing with the rhythm of transformation.

And here’s the thing: This isn’t just about the equinox. The same forces that shape the seasons shape your mind. The same patterns that play out in nature play out in your beliefs, your habits, your unconscious programming.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re caught in loops—reliving the same struggles, trapped in the same patterns, sabotaging your own growth—then this moment, this portal, is your chance to break free.

That’s why I created Free Your Mind Masterclass. Because transformation isn’t just something that happens out there, in the sky, in the seasons—it happens in you. And most of the time, the real cage isn’t the world, it’s your own mind.

This masterclass is about dismantling the illusions, cutting through the mental clutter, and stepping into a clearer, freer, more authentic version of yourself.

The equinox is an opportunity. But what you do with it? That’s up to you.

Are you ready to step through the portal? Join Free Your Mind Masterclass and take the next step in your evolution.
