The beginning of a romance is often filled with sweet moments and seen through rose-colored lenses. It’s filled with flowers, with chocolates, with thoughtful dates, and lots of talking and seeing each other.
You’re both flush with the fire of young love!
After the honeymoon period has passed, things calm down some. You both get into a rhythm with each other and things become more stable.
As your relationship goes on, there comes a point when you wonder: “Is there something more than this? Is something better in store for me?” You can’t help it, you’re only human, after all.
A note before we begin
You may be here because you’re confused as to what your man may be thinking when it comes to you (or if he’s even thinking).
Many of the following signals are what I have gathered from real-life men. This way, you may find some new thing you haven’t thought of or encountered before.
Look no further: if a man displays these behaviors, he’s starting to plan his life around you.
1) He makes an effort
I know a guy who drives to a whole other city every single week just to see his girlfriend. The distance is no small thing either–depending on the flow of traffic, it takes at most two and half hours to get there!
Another man who is currently staying for a few months in a different country due to family reasons, stays up to talk to his girlfriend despite the reversed time zones. This same man surprised his girlfriend with ten bouquets of roses last Valentine’s Day.
But effort is not only shown with grand gestures such as what I mentioned above.
Effort can also be seen when your man does his best to be present when he’s with you, regardless of how busy or tired he may be.
2) He meets you halfway
Love–any kind of love–entails sacrifice. I’ve heard it said that you can’t change anybody, least of all, a man…unless they want to change.
A man I interviewed shared that he once forfeited playing in an important soccer game just so he could personally take care of his girlfriend when she came down with a cold and fever. To his girlfriend, it signaled that he was capable of making sacrifices.
If a man also does something as simple as letting you choose the Netflix movie or show you both will watch on a Friday night (which my own husband does), he is showing you he can compromise.
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see that if he is willing to do the things that make life easier or happier for you, then you’re important to him.
If a man displays these behaviors, he’s starting to plan his life around you.
3) He is vulnerable around you
Men are dictated by society to not show emotion, to keep a straight face, and be strong. Simply put, they’re expected to “man up.”
From a young age, they were told that showing emotions is a sign of weakness. And weakness…well, that’s bad.
This conditioning may make it hard for them to even begin admitting what they’re feeling and share that with others.
But men are humans just like anybody else, so it’s no small thing when your partner opens up to you. It means he considers you a safe space, where he doesn’t have to fear judgment.
That’s a pretty good sign that he’s starting to plan his life around you.
4) He wants to be exclusive with you
Especially in this digital age, exclusivity is a rare thing.
Situationships can be found everywhere you look. And it’s no wonder, because in this kind of setup, a man doesn’t have to be fully committed but still get the “benefits”. They are also afforded the freedom to see other people without earning your ire.
So if a man suggests you become exclusive, that’s an encouraging sign that he’s taking your relationship to the next level.
5) He deletes his online dating profile
In connection with our previous point, a man who wants to be exclusive with you will most likely delete his online dating profile.
A lot of men (and women) go on Tinder, Bumble, and what-have-you, to meet thousands of other people. Dating apps also double as an ego boost if others swipe right on you or you make a match.
After all, there’s nothing more thrilling than meeting someone brand-new to hook up.
If your man deletes his profile and the app, then it’s a sure sign that he’s starting to plan his life around you.
6) He includes you in concrete future plans

Is there a wedding in six months where he’s asked you to be his date?
Has he ever asked you what you want to do for your birthday–which is ten months away?
Is he checking out vacation spots you could visit during summer or spring?
I ask, as these are mere examples of your man thinking about you in more serious terms. If he includes you in fleshed-out plans he has for the future, it’s not so hard to imagine that you’re now a key figure in his life.
7) He remembers things important to you
When a man cares about you, he pays attention to detail.
He considers you an important part of his life, and as such, he tells you his plans, he reassures you, remembers birthdays and anniversaries, or perhaps something you saw in a store window you said you liked.
A lot of this has to do with your man knowing your love language because it’s how a person recognizes love.
Does he send you little poems or songs to tell you how much he appreciates you? Does he leave little notes on the bathroom mirror, or send you texts during the day just because?
Maybe your man carves out time especially for date night. When you’re together, he puts his phone on silent and actually talks and listens to you.
Apart from physical intimacy, perhaps your man shows you affection through lots of hugs, handholding, cuddling, or even giving you a massage.
Or does your man do things for you like helping you clean your apartment, accompanying you on errand runs?
Does he shower you with little trinkets or bring home flowers for no special reason? No matter what it is, it’s the thought that counts.
All of these are behaviors that show he’s starting to plan his life around you.
8) He likes to be seen out with you
One of the surefire ways to know how a man really feels about you is if he’s comfortable being seen with you. The following anecdote is from my own life.
I once was involved with a guy who only agreed to see me if we met at my place, or somewhere in my end of the city, usually late at night. Suffice it to say, after wasting quite some time with him, I realized he was never going to be serious with me.
In contrast, when I met my husband, he brought me to his home for our first date. He was never ashamed to take me out to meet his friends and post our pictures on social media.
9) He brings you home to meet his family
Very much related to the previous point, when a man brings you home to meet his family, it’s usually a mark of a relationship getting pretty serious.
Like I said, my husband took me to his parent’s house when we went out for the first time. It was nothing like I ever experienced before, but sure enough, after that, I’d always be invited to dinners and out-of-town trips.
When a man introduces you to his family, it may mean he’s finally found someone that he could really see a future with, whom his parents would like.
The culture in my country is highly family-oriented. When you marry someone, it is essential that you get along with each other’s families.
So if a man brings you to meet his parents, it’s likely he’s starting to plan his life around you.
10) He’s financially responsible
Contrary to popular belief, love is not enough.
A good friend of mine brought this sign to my attention. I knew that money is important–there’s no two ways about it. But the way that he explained it to me gave it a whole new dimension.
To him, a sign of taking a relationship seriously is having three things: separate savings, investments, and insurance.
“Opening a joint savings account separate from your own is a way to chip in for your future together,” he said. “It shows the want of financial security for the future. Investments are another means to a financially secured future: smart investments can add to your finances down the line.
“As for insurance, life is not a guarantee and accidents may happen down the line. Getting insurance for your life, car, house, etc., can be a way to ensure that even along the bumps of life, your partner is safe and secured,” he concluded.
And it’s true. If a man has his finances in order–or is at least working towards that–then he’s starting to plan his life around you.
The bottom line
There are many ways a man who’s serious about you can show that he wants a real future with you. Every man is different and may show their seriousness in ways other than what we’ve discussed above.
But if you recognize these behaviors in your man, maybe a happy future together isn’t far off.
