Let me share a personal example. I remember being stuck in a job where I felt undervalued and underappreciated. It was draining me both emotionally and mentally. The turning point came when I realised my self-worth and acknowledged that I deserved better. I made the decision to leave and look for a job where I would be valued and appreciated for my contributions.

It was scary at first, but ultimately one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself. Just like me, folks with real self-worth understand that settling for less is not an option. They strive for what they deserve, knowing that they are worthy of the best.

4. They don’t ignore their needs

People who value themselves never ignore their personal needs.

They understand that taking care of their physical, emotional, and mental well-being is crucial.

They know the importance of self-care and they don’t feel guilty about putting themselves first when needed.

People who prioritize self-care and maintain a balanced lifestyle are less likely to suffer from burnout. This fact just goes to show how important it is not to ignore our needs.

Those with a genuine sense of self-worth have this figured out, and it helps them lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.

5. They don’t self-sabotage

People who truly value themselves do not engage in self-sabotage. They understand that making mistakes is a part of life and a stepping stone to growth. When they stumble, they don’t harshly criticize themselves or indulge in negative self-talk. Instead, they embrace their failures as lessons and opportunities to become better.

I’d like you to imagine a small sapling trying to grow into a majestic tree. If its growth is constantly hindered, if its branches are repeatedly cut down, it will never reach its full potential. It’s the same with people. Self-sabotage is like cutting down your own branches, preventing yourself from reaching your full potential.

Those with a genuine sense of self-worth understand this deep down. They treat themselves kindly and gently, fostering their own growth instead of hindering it. They become their own cheerleaders, not their own critics. And in doing so, they allow themselves to blossom into the best versions of themselves.

I remember a time in my own life when I was friends with someone who constantly belittled me and made me feel small. It took me some time to realize that this was not okay. Once I acknowledged my own self-worth, I knew I had to confront my friend about their behavior. It was tough, but I stood up for myself and communicated how I felt. The experience taught me a valuable lesson: if you don’t respect yourself, you can’t expect others to respect you. People with genuine self-worth know this and they ensure that they are treated with the respect they deserve.

7. They don’t ignore their mistakes

Let’s be honest, we all mess up. Humans are imperfect beings who make mistakes. But those with a true sense of self-worth? They don’t brush their mistakes under the rug or blame others. No, they face them head-on.
