10 signs you’re a high class person (even though you don’t have much money)

Class isn’t all about the cash in your wallet. It’s about character, values, and how you treat others.

Many people think that being high class is all about driving fancy cars and living in opulent homes. But let’s debunk that myth right here, right now.

Being high class has less to do with money and more to do with your attitude, your behaviour, and the way you treat others.

In this article, I’m going to share with you 10 signs that you’re a high class person – even if your bank account says otherwise. And trust me, these signs are worth more than any stack of cash.

1) You appreciate the small things

High class isn’t about expensive tastes. It’s about refined ones.

Don’t have the cash to splurge on a fancy dinner? No problem. You can find just as much enjoyment in a home-cooked meal or a picnic in the park.

It’s not about the price tag, but the experience. You savour the flavours, enjoy the conversation, and cherish the company.

Even if you don’t have much money, your ability to find joy in simple pleasures shows that you’re a high class person. After all, class is about quality, not quantity.

And remember, it’s not what you have that defines you; it’s how you appreciate what you’ve got.

2) You respect everyone, regardless of their status

This is something I’ve personally learned and continue to practice. Class is about how you treat people, not what you have or how you look.

I remember a time when I was at a gathering with a mix of people from different backgrounds. There was this one gentleman who wasn’t dressed as elegantly as the others and was clearly less affluent. Some people were dismissive of him, but I decided to strike up a conversation.

We ended up having one of the most enriching conversations that evening. He shared his experiences, his wisdom and his fascinating perspective on life. That encounter served to reinforce my belief: treating everyone with respect isn’t just about being polite, it’s about recognizing the inherent worth in every individual.

So, if you treat everyone with respect, regardless of their job title or bank balance, then that’s a sign you’re a high class person. Because real class doesn’t discriminate.

3) You invest in experiences rather than possessions

Did you know that a study from San Francisco State University found that people who spend money on experiences rather than material items were happier and felt the money was better spent?

This is a trait often seen in high class individuals. They understand that true wealth comes from life experiences, not just material possessions. Whether it’s traveling to a new city, attending a local music festival, or even learning a new skill – these experiences provide enrichment and personal growth.

Even if you don’t have much money, if you prioritize experiences over things, that’s another sign you’re high class. Because at the end of the day, the memories we make are the true treasures we own.

4) You practice gratitude regularly

Gratitude is a trademark of high class individuals. It’s an attitude that transforms your perspective on life, focusing on the positive rather than dwelling on the negative.

Everyday, you find something to be thankful for – be it a kind word from a stranger, a meal shared with loved ones, or simply the beauty of a sunset. This regular practice of gratitude shows your ability to appreciate and value what you have, regardless of how much or how little that may be.

If you’re someone who practices gratitude regularly, that’s a sign of your high class nature. It shows that you understand the value of things beyond their monetary worth and appreciate the simple joys in life.

5) You have a strong sense of self-worth

It’s not always about what you own, but how you see yourself. A high class person understands their worth is not tied to their bank account.

You might not have the latest designer clothes or the newest gadgets, but you have confidence in who you are and what you stand for. You know your value isn’t determined by material possessions, but by your actions, your values, and the person you are on the inside.

If you have a strong sense of self-worth, that’s a clear sign of being high class. After all, true class is about being comfortable in your own skin, regardless of what you can or cannot afford.

6) You are always willing to lend a hand

High class individuals understand that real wealth comes from giving, not receiving.

Even when you’re struggling, you’re always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Whether it’s helping a neighbor with their groceries, volunteering at a local shelter, or simply being there for a friend in a tough time – your willingness to help others speaks volumes about your character.

This act of kindness and selflessness is a true sign of being high class. It shows that you value empathy and compassion over material wealth. Because at the end of the day, the richest people aren’t those who have the most, but those who give the most.

7) You are not afraid to admit your mistakes

I remember a time when I made a significant error at work. It was a lapse in judgement that cost my team valuable time and resources. Rather than making excuses or blaming others, I chose to take responsibility for my actions.

Admitting my mistake wasn’t easy, but it was an important step in resolving the issue and moving forward. It also taught me a valuable lesson about humility and integrity.

If you can admit when you’re wrong and take responsibility for your actions, that’s a sign of being a high class person. Because true class isn’t about never making mistakes, but having the courage to admit them and the resilience to learn from them.

8) You value quality over quantity

When it comes to friendships, a high class person doesn’t measure worth by the number of friends they have, but by the quality of those relationships.

You might not have a large social circle, but the friendships you do have are deep and meaningful. You prefer having a few close friends who you can trust and rely on, rather than numerous acquaintances.

If you value the depth of your relationships over the breadth, that’s another sign you’re a high class person. Because in the grand scheme of things, it’s not about how many people you know, but how well those people know you.

9) You are always learning and growing

Class has less to do with what you have, and more to do with what you know and how you grow.

Even without the resources for formal education, you seek out opportunities to learn. You read books, listen to podcasts, or even take free online courses. You’re always looking for ways to expand your knowledge and improve yourself.

Because of this, you’re well-informed and open-minded. You understand that growth is a lifelong journey, not a destination.

10) You know that class can’t be bought

The most crucial sign that you’re a high class person, even without much money, is understanding that class can’t be bought. It’s not about the brand of your clothes or the model of your car. It’s about your actions, your values, and your respect for others.

You understand that class is about integrity, kindness, and humility. It’s about how you treat people and how you carry yourself.

Because at the end of the day, true class is priceless.

Essence: Class transcends monetary wealth

The essence of being a high class person is not defined by the size of your wallet, but by the size of your heart and the depth of your character.

It’s about treating everyone with respect, finding joy in simple pleasures, and continuously learning and growing. It’s about understanding that real wealth comes from giving, not receiving. And it’s about knowing that class can’t be bought.

American statesman, Benjamin Franklin once said, “Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it.” This rings true for high class individuals who find richness in experiences and relationships rather than material possessions.

So, regardless of what’s in your bank account, if you identify with these signs, know that you are indeed a high class person. Because true class is about who you are as a person and how you choose to navigate through life, not what you own or how much money you have.
